Audemars Piguet Releases Blue Ceramic Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar

This legendary luxury timepiece reaches heavenly heights with an all-blue treatment and gleaming white gold hands.

Any Audemars Piguet Royal Oak is prone to attracting some coveted glances, but few do as well as the newly launched blue-on-blue perpetual calendar.

The almost 150-year-old legendary Swiss watchmaker sought to "give a timepiece a starry vibe" by creating a 41mm-thick case and bracelet entirely in blue ceramic. This celestial theme continues with the application of shiny 18K white gold on the hour markers and hands.

According to Robb Report, the vibrant hue is created by mixing zirconia powder with a binder content that turns blue when baked above 2,550 degrees Fahrenheit. The ceramic is finished like precious metal, hand-brushed and chamfered.

The darker blue appears on the inner bezel and on the dial's "Grande Tapisserie" - the middle size of AP's signature small square Tapisserie pattern.

Powering the hands is the ultra-thin 4.5mm Calibre 5134 movement found in all current Royal Oak perpetual calendars, which can display the date even in leap years as long as it is wound regularly.
